Introduction to CGWS
Centre for Ground Water Studies (CGWS) is a Non Government Organisation (NGO) was established in 2003 and registered under West Bengal Societies Registration Act 1961.
Objectives of the Organisation
To undertake scientific research on ground water and to promote & carry out studies on the quality of environment and human life related to it.
To promote and conduct study of the economic implications of maintaining and enhancing quality of ground water and on social control of human abuse of environment and its resources through public forum and legislation along with study of environmental aspects of human disorders and diseases with particular reference to Geo-medicine and social health to improve the quality of life in urban and rural habitants with special emphasis on ground water utilisation.
The Organisation also undertakes ground water related research projects and programmes for Central and State government under takings, private sectors organizations etc for conservation and utilisation of ground water and mitigation. It also carries out projects on Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) and ground water recharge.
The Organisation conducted Post Graduate Certificate course on ‘Ground Water Development Management’ in collaboration with Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM). This course was initiated in 4th August, 2004 and five such courses were held.
The Organisation offers training in ground water related subjects, organize meetings, conferences, symposia, workshops etc for the study discussions and disseminations of knowledge of major issues in the sphere of ground water.
Publications in the form of Journal dealing with various aspects of ground water issues in course of the activities. The Organisation publishes biannual journal “Indian Ground Water”.
